Who Should Apply EU4Ocean Summer School?
The program seeks to bring together 20 youth participants from both EU and non-EU countries bordering the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Eligible applicants include:
- Students: Enrolled in or graduated from Master’s or PhD programs
- Early Career Professionals: Individuals at the beginning of their careers, regardless of sector, who share a passion for the ocean
Key Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Understand International Initiatives: Gain insights into the objectives and actions of the EU4Ocean Coalition, Youth4Ocean Forum, and the United Nations Ocean Decade.
- Amplify Youth Efforts: Learn strategies to scale up youth-driven ocean initiatives within the UN Ocean Decade framework.
- Enhance Collaboration Skills: Acquire practical skills for effective collaboration in ocean-related projects, emphasizing shared responsibility and collective action.
- Integrate Diverse Knowledge Systems: Explore various knowledge systems relevant to ocean science and policy.
- Improve Communication: Develop effective storytelling and communication strategies for ocean projects.
Program Structure
The Summer School includes:
- Online Self-Paced Module: Preparatory content accessible prior to the in-person activities.
- In-Person Sessions: Workshops and discussions led by international experts covering topics such as empathy for collaboration, storytelling, impact measurement, project management, ocean policy and governance, stakeholder engagement, and nature-based solutions.
Language: All activities will be conducted in English.
Logistics and Grants
Selected participants will receive:
- Accommodation: Shared rooms provided for all participants, excluding the 4 extra participants selected from partnering institutions.
- Meals: Lunches and a social dinner during the program.
- Travel Grants: Five travel grants covering round-trip transport tickets.
